Green Park Big Sleep Out in support of Launchpad

With the aftermath of Storm Barney still blowing a gale a group of adventurous Green Park Occupiers bravely took on the inaugural Green Park Big Sleep Out in support of Launchpad.

The evening began with a shelter making competition where a lot of superbly built makeshift houses were created. Josanne and Hannah from Quintiles made a fabulous double shelter in the shape of a box of matches, whilst DSSEC made a mini village which included a castle and a fairy tree.

Photos of all the great shelters made are on the Green Park Facebook page.

Local musicians, Bright Shadows, came and gave a really entertaining set of covers for us. They really helped build the atmosphere of the evening for us.

Food Festival favourites, Dan’s Kitchen generously gave up their time by serving us soup in the evening and returning in the morning to cook and serve very welcome bacon and egg rolls.

Together we have so far raised an amazing £3,752!

All of the money will be going to Launchpad, a local charity with helps and supports those vulnerable in Reading. Jason McMahon of Launchpad took part in the event and explained to all participants how the money raised will be used to fund their new drop in centre. Money can still be donated to the good work Launchpad do by visiting one of the Justgiving pages of those who took part in the Big Sleep Out.
